Nail Diaries: Pink Zebra Stripes (an homage to Lorelai Gilmore)

It’s been a long time coming…

Points if you sang that in your head.  Bonus points if you actually sang it out loud.

Now, we realize it’s been well over a week since we lasted posted.  And I, Megan, take full responsibility for that brief hiatus.  (Final-year-of-undergrad-end-of-semester-craziness problems.)  But we’re back!  Hence the opening lyric.

On a similar note, Gilmore Girls is back too! If you’ve been living under a rock and this is the first you’re hearing of it, drop everything and go watch it now.  (Well, we’d really appreciate it if you’d finish reading this post first…)  And hypocritically, I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet myself, but that’s because it awaits my starving eyes as a post-exam reward.

In the meantime, instead of studying, I’ve managed to create a partially Gilmore Girls-inspired nail design…

Remember that spectacular episode when Lorelai wakes up late, doesn’t have time to get her laundry before taking Rory to Chilton for the first time, and ends up wearing a ridiculous outfit composed of a pink tie-dye t-shirt, jean cutoffs, and cowboy boots?  Iconic.

So now every time I think of Lorelai, I immediately associate her character with something pink and tie-dye-y.  And as she’s the one who taught Ry and I the validity of the “essence of lettuce” and coffee as a meal, it only seems fitting to dedicate a post to her genius.

But bear with me here…things didn’t go quite as planned…

As you can see, it turned into more of a pink zebra striped look as opposed to a tie-dye one, but it still has a Lorelai feel to it, no?

All it took was a coat or two of Essie’s mod square (224) as the bright, vibrant base, followed by a few squiggles here and there using Sally Hansen’s nail art pen in Pearl White.

Like I said, it’s a bit of a stretch, but we’re all about the inspiration here on MegRyann.  Whether it’s an exact carbon copy of something out there, or very loosely based on someone somehow…it’s the thought that counts, right?

Okay, now you can go binge-watch Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix.  Enjoy, and don’t spoil it for us! Oh, and thanks for reading!

’til next time,

Meg ❤
